Defectors have ravaged the planet Gaia and abandoned it in search of a new hospitable environment. This forces all of the wild life left behind to adapt and evolve in order to combat the polluted world.

All animals have become anthropomorphic as a result of this forced evolution as a way of mimicking the forms of the Defectors. As they grew to adapt there was a distinct divide between the three factions (water, land, and sky) as each had their own ways to sustain life. This resulted in each faction living separately from one another as their ideologies conflicted. As far as consumption is concerned, microfauna have also evolved to become livestock for the animals.
